hi, hoping you can help me... a couple years ago i purchased a bunch (12) of picaxe chips from a company in Canada called HVW tech, located in BC i beleive, anyway, this was before you where marking them with your name i think, and at the time i thought where authentic. They came as - PIC16F628 i/p 18 pin. my question is does this ring bells, if so what is the replacement chip for the authentic picaxe compliment. The company it seems went under this last year or this year and i can't contact them. can i still use them as per picaxe circuits on web site?

Was it even made by you? I don't have any other info. hope you can help. Thanks in advance.

PICAXE Manual 1, page 16. This has the labels for the matching PICAXE chips. I can't see yours listed? Sorry, that's all I offer.

Welcome to the PICAXE forum.

The 16F628 does not appear to have ever been used as a PICAXE chip so it is most likely a native PICmicro device.

Here are some links to the hvwtech.com website on the wayback machine . It appears they sold both the picaxe and raw pic chips . They were sold to solarbotics .

Thank you for all your replys!

I think i'm going to make a circuit and a small program to determine if the chips are unwritten/new pic chips or are picaxe chips. I should be able to detect picaxe basic within the chip. Maybe i just mixed them up some how. Wonder what happened to HVW, they had some great products, i bought alot of stuff from them.

anyway i did purchase some genuine picaxe chips today, i have some projects to make.
Thanks again for the help. :)

Don't waste your time, they are definitely not PICAXE chips if they say 16F628 on the top!
HVW were bought out by Solarbotics.
