Wireless PS2 Controller

I spotted this wireless controller with a receiver board. Very cheap price, but can a Picaxe connect to it easily? It has a few links of info included for mainly Basic Atom boards.

Hey Murray

I've been tempted to just buy one and try and get it to work.

As you know I've been toying with PICAXE on my R2 project, and having something smaller to control him would be great.

Keep in mind the extremely limited range.

By the way http://www.cheapcontrolsystems.com/ has a PS2 to servo controller. It is currrently undergoing a revision, and should be available again in the next month or so. Same limited range, but they are working on that issue, too.

I see you found your way to the Picaxe forum. Lots of info here and very helpful and friendly people. By the way the charging schematic was just what I was after for my own build, not that I am any where near that stage though.

Thanks for the link Wreno. I will check back on the link when they are back on sale. The limited range as you said might be a problem though, but at $20 you cant beat the price.

Hi Chris,
I connected a PS1 controller to an 18x a while ago. I believe that the PS1 & PS2 controllers are functionally the same. The details of the PS1 hookup can be found at -

I'm not fixed on using a PS2 controller, but would like to use some sort of game controller. Maybe a wireless XBox controller would be better for distance? I know it's interface is based on USB.
