Unable to read message from 18A

I am sending a text string to the terminal program in the Programming Editor but I only get vertical lines as characters.

I am using the serout command. Can someone please help.

Make sure you've got the right baud selected in the Terminal window to correspond to that being used by the PICAXE. Also take note of the polarity of the signal you are using if you are using the T1200/T2400/... commands or a MAX232 or similar chip in your serial comms.

I am using serout 2.n2400,("blah...") and the terminal is also set on 2400.

Have you tried T2400?

Yes I have.
I am trying to get up to speed with picaxe again after not using them for quite a while so I am a little rusty.
