Theres only really one thing that upsets me about picaxe

Where are you storing them? I2C EEPROM? I thought that the ADC reads actually could go pretty quickly (i.e. greater than 500 samples/sec).

Using normal ram, i was under the impression from previous posts(and hence not tried!) that it takes up to 250ms to do a conversion?

Doing a search of the forum for “Command Timing” with “Search for all the words together” selected, will show that the readadc command takes around 250uS.
Admittedly, there have been many firmware upgrades since these tests so probably worth a re-visit.
