I realise I can download hundred of tone files (for the tune vizard) from picaxe.com
but what about sound files, to use as alarms, reminders,or just as cool sound effects.

Screech the tunes in the Picaxe are simply a
single frequency put out for a specific length of time. they also have a timing parameter included when strung together in a tune.
The system is similar to the way MIDI works,
midi uses no actual notes, it just says what voice to use at what pitch and for how long e.g. 7 different sounding songs will beheard from 7 different sound cards depending on the "voice" the particular manufacturer has used, in some cases even different instruments altogether.

On the other hand .wav and .MP3 are the actual sound digitized @ whatever bit rate and, sampling frequency.
A picaxe has 256 bytes of memory, if it was all used for sound the max you could store
would be less than 1/4 of a seconds worth.

Now having said that there is an ad on speech module or recorder I think, try investigating that. It will be the only way to make a Picaxe back talk to you.

You can use the PICAXE MP3 player SPE020 for this type of work
