serial cable has to be connected

Just starting out on the picaxe system from basic stamps!! My programs do not run unless the serial cable is kept connected to my laptop. I'm useing the picaxe18 standard project board? is there something obvious???

Very strange if you are using "standard" board. That is normally an indication that the 10k resistor part of the download circuit is missing.
Double check the board to make sure the resistor has not been missed and/or that there are no track breaks around the download circuit resistors.

seems in my haste I was using pin0 and pin1 as digital inputs without the 10k resistor running the same short program on pins 6& 7 works fine without my laptop connected. I never read instruction books properly!!! thanks beaniebots
