RF Link Question

I have been creating a few projects for a few magician friends of mine. One project was a simple transmitter that once a button was pressed a vibration motor silently vibrated on the receiver unit. Basically a secret coding tool...Very simple stuff here.
I was using the 08m2 mcu with the cheap ASK RF modules and it was fairly simple to make happen. The issue I am running into now is with my future projects and RF modules. My projects have a few requirments that I am not sure how to meet.

1. The transmitter modules need to be low voltage as the circuit will run off a coin cell. 3v or 3.7V. I know the ASK modules can work at low voltage but without the antenna and low voltage my range would probably be dismal.
2. the transmitter modules cannot have a wire antenna as the circuits will be hidden in wallets, cubes, etc that the spectator may actually hold during the trick. (The chip antennas on some transmitters will probably help with this issue).
3. I have though that these would be the answer.... NRF2401 https://www.sparkfun.com/products/152 but... they use up all the damn pins on the 08m2, there is hardly anyone displaying any picaxe code for them in the forum, and they seem pretty complex to get going and what I need to do i pretty simple stuff.
4. I only need about 20-30 feet transmission range.
5. Work with a keychain keyfob (optional)

All the projects are basically just sending a chracter over RF and the receiver buzzind a certain number of times. example... RFID reader hidden in a wallet reads an RFID card put in the wallet and buzzes a number to the receiver to tell you what card was chosen.... An Accelerometer hidden in a multicolored cube transmits a number from 1-6 to the transmitter to tell the magician what side is faceing up...etc.

Any ideas on a small easy to use transmitter that that can meet the above requirements or am I going to have to get started on learning this nrf2401 and use a larger pin MCU?

Thanks!

Phew- I'm not sure your needs are very ethical! Best you stay away from casino tables or TV game shows...

More powerful & sensitive PICAXE friendly ASK transmitters & receivers are available (~US$5 Dorji etc) that'd handle this, but most are on the non legal (in US) 433 MHz.

it's only for magic... no casinos or tv game shows :)
Loos like the Dorji modules still require an antenna.... not sure what kind of distance and reliability I will get at 3 volts with no antenna on the transmitter...

Why not use the NEW Rev-ed modules as they would look to be made for your application with the chip antenna.

I suggest reading the comments on the Sparkfun page for the NRF2401.

It looks like you will need some real magic to get these working over 4ft !.

In fact, now that I think of it, someone (might be Hippy) posted on this forum a couple of years ago about using a Picaxe directly as a simple RF TX. Can't remember any details.

Gotta be worth a look. Hippy?

Sorry eclectic. Thought it was the magical Hippy. My memory gets fuzzy after 5 years.

Good catch.
