resistors and diodes

Hi

I have an 18m2 project board with a darlington driver ic.

The manual shows items connected directly to inputs without the 1k resistor. The manual says the board is fitted with the 10k resistors but do I need to insert the 1k before digital inputs.

Thanks for any help.

And this board is... Rev-Ed or non-Rev-Ed? Is it this board, the CHI030?

Which inputs? If you mean the PICAXE then no, those resistors are only needed to protect against accidentally setting an input pin as an output, but use them if you think that you will accidentally set as input pin as an output. If you mean the darlington driver then still no.

For typical Darlington Array IC's such as the ULN2803, there are resistors built into the "chip" for the inputs.
For the ULN2803 these resistor are 2.7 kOhms. (See datasheet page 4)

Hence as nick12ab indicates no further resistor is required between a PIVACE and ULN2803 (and similar chips) - but always check the datasheets is using something new.
