problem when using sn754410ne instead of l293d

Hello can any one tell me why im getting no outputs to motors when using sn754410ne, however all is fine when using l293d, have i missed something. My understanding was that the 754410 is a direct pin for pin replacement to l293d.
Im driving 2 motors using dual hbridge.
Can anyone enlighten me.
