PICAXE 18 X and Stepper Motors

Hi,

No replies after 24 hours, so I'll try to keep this thread alive, but it's not my specialist area and I won't give any "detailed" help.

Firstly, I don't believe the "18X" is a current device (if it ever was); Present devices are the 18M2 or 20M2 (my preference). A circuit diagram would be much more help than a PCB layout, but I gues N&V want to sell you a magazine and/or a PCB. ;)

It appears that the steppers are driven by 8 transistors (I don't know what the 9th is for) which could be done by a single "Darlington" package as on the CHI030 and AXE118 prototype boards. You would need to "patch" the switches and pots, etc. onto the "inputs" side of the PCB (which has only resistors and input pads), perhaps easier on the 18-pin PCB.

Note that there doesn't appear to be a precision (crystal) oscillator in the design, so timekeeping won't be very good. Probably ok for a few days, but it's not a "set and forget" design.

Cheers, Alan.
