O.T. SMD rework station

I have never worked with SMD. The other day I was wandering through hardware/electrical store in Phuket. There on the bench was a Chinese made Rework station for Thai Baht 1800 or less than $60. Seemed very cheap for a fairly hefty lump of kit.

How much would you pay in UK?

Speaking of smd, I saw the other day an alloy that you can melt into existing solder on smd's or whatever and it lowers the melting point to about 60 degrees.
This then allows simple removal of surface mount devices especially those with a lot of pins.
take a peek here..... www.ultrakeet.com.au
I think product is called ChipQuik
I would put a direct link but they are down at the moment for maintenance.

You don't provide any description, but I assume that it works with hot air.

The only caveat that I've seen in cheaper SMT rework units is that the heater element doesn't last very long...it simply opens up. Maybe check out if heater replacements are available.
