Well after waiting it seems forever my new 28X1 arrived Friday. I cobbled together a small radio shack perf board with just a basic picaxe passive serial interface and reset switch, but did add a socket mounted 16mhz resonator that came with the 28x1 and a 16 mhz 4 pin oscillator chip, with a jumper to select resonator or oscillator.

Ran a basic blink an led with a pause on/off 100 and checked the setfreq command at internal 4 and 8 mhz and the external em16 command for testing the resonator and oscillator chip. All worked great and the pause command could be seen speeding up at the various changes to clock speed just like the rev-ed command says.

After having read the Microchip datasheet on this chip about it's 'failsafe' clock function, I tried pulling the resonator 'on the fly' while running and damn if the program didn't just keep running but slower at the default 4 mhz.

Nice job Rev-ed and Microchip, I know I will be enjoying the new capablities of the X1 series.
