Quick question. Is there a picaxe capable of playing MP3 files.

No, no picaxe can play mp3. But a picaxe is a micro-CONTROLLER, so the real question is: is there an mp3 player a picaxe can control?

Sorry, the PICAXE does not support MP3s natively. You will have to use an external device to play the files such as the Vmusic2 or a computer running a custom program. However there are some commands built into the PICAXE that support basic chiptune music.

Yes, the 8-bit PICAXE running at 16MIPS is fully capable of playing 32-bit MP3 files sampled at up to 48000Hz! It can also do WMA and FLAC! And in 7.1 surround sound!

It's inexpensive, plays back with very good quality, and there's sample code in the thread.
