LCD Firmware chip problems

Question to (I quess) Technical, or to Techsupplies: I recently bought two LCD firmware chips (FRM010) and I tested one of them. It gives all kinds of odd readings, and I wonder if I'm facing the same problems that Markey26-UK experienced. Checked all connections three times, no lose contacts, but if I run a loop sending 1, 2, 3, ... to the LCD, it sometimes works reasonably well up till 20, and then starts giving odd readings, or suddenly a letter or number shows up next to the number sent by the Picaxe. (LCD is OK).
What to do?

This is not the same issue at all, the other reported issue was no response.

What PICAXE chips are you using, and post your test program?
