Welcome to the PICAXE Forum.

For those readers willing to help but not familiar with the "ew20400yly" display; do you have a link to its datasheet ?

the link(s) given by nick12ab is working for me.
Well, not for me.

The page is there, and all the info is there, if you scroll down.

However, the links near the top of the page, and all down the left border, try to jump to Hippy's old freeserve pages.

Well those aren't related to the LCD, but if you really need to see them, you can use the wayback machine to see them. It's quite slow which is why I gave you the link I gave you.

Line 3 is just a continuation of line 1 and line 4 is a continuation of line 2. the 4 line by 20 character LCDs are 2 lines by 40 characters where the rest of lines 1 and 2 become lines 3 and lines 4.

Thank you for the necessary explanation, now I understand a bit more.
A program that makes it clearer would be the max.

Just send more than 20 characters to line 1 and watch what happens. (They will apear on line 3). do the same for line 2 (extras will appear on line 4).
