Hi since this is my first post I guess I'll give you a bit of a background my name is Tyler and I'm a freshman. And why I have modified a old rc buggy in to a robot platform and i would like to try to communicate to with it from long distances with FSK. Anyway to get to the point I have not been able to find a dtmf encoder ic i can buy. Such as from B.G. Micro or Jamico Eletronics. If anyone know where i could buy 2 it would be very helpful thanks :):)

Thanks,
Tyler

The MC145436 chip (14 pin DIL) should be widely available. Hobby outlets like Radioshack should still carry it in the US.

The MC145436 works great, but has gotten pretty had to find since Motorolla stopped production a few years ago. Another reasonable and DIRT CHEAP choice is the Holtek HT9170B. (About $0.50 each)
Data sheet is here:

I have ordered them from futurelec in the past. They are slow (Coming from far east) but great selection and prices:

Here is a picaxe based RC conversion project I did:

and another page on RC protocols

keep us informed on how it goes!

EDIT: Brendan posted while I was posting. As an addendum you will need an oscillator to run any of these chips. You could of course implement DTMF output using a pair of picaxe08Ms(Each using the tone command.) Feed this into a RC circuit to smooth it out and it should work.)
