Roman Black, of Black regulator fame....Smart fella, with minimalist but very clever circuits.

Wristwatches to achieve their specified accuracy have to be worn...and the body heat will act as the required crystal oven.

The old Bulova Accutron tuning fork wristwatch was (or is) the same way. Somewhere back at my Dad's old house there is/was a technical paper written by Bulova making that watch appear to better than anything.

That's very close to the design of the Xtal heater in my "cheap" freq counter. The good one (HP) has a real Xtal oven, but I run them both off a Rubidium standard now so the cheap one is as good as the HP. No more resistor Xtal heaters for me. But whatever works, and that looks like it might.
