Balancing Bot anyone?

Anyone thinking of starting on a new robot project may be interested in the article about developing a two wheel ‘Balancing Bot’ that’s featured in the October issue of Nuts & Volts magazine.

However, I am a bit worried that the author mentions the possibility of basing the controller on a BASIC Stamp and using Kalman filters for dynamic stability (could it be that he knows about a 10GHz version of the Stamp out there somewhere?). However, it might just be possible with an overclocked X2 PICAXE, or two.

For some really blue sky robotics, take a look at www.msl.ri.cmu.edu/projects/ballbot/
The site includes a couple of great ball bot videos.

David Williams has an interesting thought on Ballancing robots - HeExternal Web Link uses a sail and a ground probe to give slower response times, I keep meaning to try and put the hardware together to tryit with a picaxe - An 08 and L293 should be enough.
