AXE027 USB Download Cable

Can anyone tell me what the 3 parts of the stereo jack on the USB cable represent in terms of the serial in/out and ground. I just need to know how to wire up my socket to the download circuit.

have a look in the picaxe manual 1 it shows what each part is in pretty good detail

So, just to confirm from the diagram...

The tip (3) is ground,
The middle ring (2) is serial in, and
the collar (1) is serial out.

Are my assumptions correct?

Correct and to avoid any terminology issues with DTE/DCE, whose "in" and "out" we are refering to, the PC's or PICAXE's ...

(3) Tip, 0V
(2) Ring, Serial from PC to PICAXE ( to PICAXE Serial In via 10K/22K )
(1) Sleeve, Serial from PICAXE to PC ( from PICAXE Serial Out )

Thanks guys, that clears that up for me. I think I have broken my AXE027 cable due to a wrong connection. The PC recognises the COM port but I can't get any voltage out of it when I use the test function in the program editor. Guess I'll have to buy a new one!
