28X1 ser in/out?

The AXE020 data sheet shows connections for the serial in and out, but
no connections to the outside world, why?

What do you call those 8 digital inputs, 8 outputs and 4 analog inputs?

Yep, they are connections to the outside world.

Both Serial In and Serial Out go to the Jack socket / 3-pin Molex at the top left of the board which the download cable connects to.

While not specific/dedicated to the AXE020 board, the programming circuit based upon the 3 pin molex type connector is shown in PICAXE manual 1 page 31 for the 28 pin devices (and other relevant pages for other PICAXE chips).

True. And straightforward for a frequent user.
But, wouldn't you agree that , for the basic stuff and for the Newbie, that each Data Sheet should be readable in isolation?
Example:-

This is just a 10 second suggestion. I'm merely saying that 2 minutes can remove some ambiguity and several hours on the Forum ???
