Xbee and serial comms

Hi,

I was advised (rev-ed tech) that to be able to do interupt serial inputs I needed an X1 device (so have a 28 & a 40 to play with). What I want to be able to do is from the PC end of the current Xbee pairing (or more multiples), send out a string (lets call it the serial number) DEV01

DEV01 gets "advertised" and the right picaxe listening for it's name will stop what it's doing because... hey someone's calling my name, then send back a reading. I can get the text sent back no problem, just unsure how to get it recieved and driven by an interupt. I'm not sure if I can have more than one pairing or if i'd have to ATxxxxx to set it to communicate with another Xbee. What I want to do is have a number of Xbee'd picaxes that I can "poll" from the PC.

The AXE210 board looks like it uses pin 16 for serial in and 13 for serial out, should I follow similar to the X1 devices?

Can anyone help, there's a beer in in it :)
