Technical;

Would it not be a good idea to get a wiki in addition to the forum to provide a way to answer the newbie questions and allow people to post articles about there projects ect.

I just feel it would be a fantastic way to have everything picaxe in one place.

your right, i just feel the forum doesnt really allow for more indepth, formatted, articles. Especialy not user submitted ones.

I know they are out there (articles, guides),they are just not as acessable as they would be if they were all in one place, for example in a wiki.

just as an example of a really good product wiki:
<A href='http://docwiki.gumstix.org/Main_Page' Target=_Blank>External Web Link</a>

if anyone thinks they need more processing power, how does 400mhz sound?? 80x20mm linux pcs. Deffinately the way forward with robotics ect. (sorry, a little off the subject)

Ben

by the way JeremyL: wouldn't the wiki be part of rev-ed.co.uk anyway??

I was probably dreaming but I'm sure at one point there even a test page!

Actually I vaguely remember when the picaxe wiki was set up. I sometimes get a bit of 'processor gridlock' thinking about the best place to file things (don't know about anyone else, but a new lever-arch file with dividers isn't good for the brain!) , and the same applies here .... should wiki be the master reference or should the rev-ed site? I still think the rev-ed site as it's their product, and wiki should just be an overview.

PS: Yes Beanie ...I've been wondering about that too. It seemed such a good idea at the time, allowing people to upload code examples etc.

im suggesting that there is a wiki inside the rev-ed site rather that in side wikipedia aws everyone seems to think.

having a 'wiki-axe' or something like that as part of the rev-ed site for user tutorials and code.

Sorry about the confusion

Ah ...well I totally agree then. To have a good documentation system on the Picaxe site would be great.

As has been mentioned, there have been rumblings from Rev-Ed about an updated website, with user project area etc, in the not too distant past...

I can see a number of issues with hosting a picaxe wiki on the rev-ed site.

A) as it is now, they're not responsible for the content of wikipedia. If it was on their website, they WOULD be responsible. Inaccurate information (which abounds on immature wiki's for the most part) can have serious reprecutions.

B) Being a wiki means it can technically be edited by everyone. Given that the website, forums, et. al cater to mostly the educational crowd, and we've seen what happens when youngsters run amok, there would be a LOT of editing going on to put things back the way they were <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>.

A wiki is a web site that is open and can be edited by anyone who uses it. In principle if a lot of people use it it becomes self correcting assuming most people have the right ideas. Wikipedia <A href='http://www.wikipedia.orgwww.wikipedia.org' Target=_Blank>External Web Link</a>

is an example of this kind of thing.

Hello,

Note that Rev-Ed is planning a wiki-like website on projects via the following link:

<A href='http://www.picaxeprojects.co.uk' Target=_Blank>External Web Link</a>

Hopefully this one will become active very soon, as it makes good propaganda for the picaxes. I am also eagerly waiting to publish my true two-wire power and data network project on it:

<A href='http://www.kranenborg.org/ee/picaxe/twowirenetwork.htm' Target=_Blank>External Web Link</a>

Best regards,
Jurjen

Hmmm, just checked, it looks like you can already fill in the specification form, which was not the case a few months ago ... Technical, is it already functional, perhaps?
