Hello all,
Is there a difference between L293d and L293dne?
I`ve checked the data sheet and I am realy no wiser, does the "ne" relate to none functional things like packaging? or is "ne" more sinister, like no diode protection?
I use L293d all the time on my Meccano models ,with no problems.
I tried to use L293dne .The motor runs for maybe 30 seconds then stops, the motor then begins to rapid pulse untill the fuse blows on the motor output.
I ordered L293d from RevEd and they sent me L293dne by mistake, they
replaced them with L293d ,no problem now.
"Who can explain it who can tell me why"
Is L293dne plug and play for L293d ?

http://focus.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/l293.pdf (2010) seems to suggest that the E is for "eco" (lead-free), but that datasheet does not have a "plain" L293D - the base device is L293DN.

...but the ST version datasheet at http://www.st.com/stonline/books/pdf/docs/1330.pdf is a rather old 2003 version that calls it a plain L293D

What manufacturer markings are on your chips?

I can't believe there is any material difference in the different chips....but you seem to have proven it.

They should in theory be the same, just made by different manufacturers.
L293D is made by ST
L293DNE is made by Toshiba

However historically we have always used ST and do tend to stick wth them as we know they work!
