VSM license renewal

Hi there,
I need to know how a VSM license renewal works.
Does the renewal let me update the software for a year after I buy it, no matter when it expired, or does it simply extend the licence's expiry date by a year? The thing is, my license expired 13/05/2009 (more than a year ago) and I haven't renewed it yet because there have been no updates for the software yet.

I asked this a while back, and the answer is that a license gives you a year from when you renew the license - ie there is no point in buying the license until an update is available.

It is a long time to the next update so far, which probably gives VSM users a break from having to renew their licenses. It must be hard work working on the X2 parts, solving the X1's command-above-address-$4000 problem that I finally highlighted, and maybe even giving support for background hserin and hi2cslave mode I suppose.
