Un-Used 40X2 Resonators Pins

Hi,

Just considering a (surface mount) 40x2 for a new project and would utilise the internal resonator to save on a little PCB space.

I didn't see any pointers on unused resonator pins in the manual, I'm guessing tied rather than floating pins would be a good idea. Is this the right thing to do or does it cause a problem?

Best regards,
Colin

You can leave them unconnected, but for lowest current consumption in sleep, you will either need to fit the resonator or ground one (not both) of the pins, probably pin 13, test it on the breadboard version of your circuit.

Unless space is mega short, I would not leave out the resonator.

You don't have to fit it, but if the pads are there on the PCB you have the option of running the 40x2 at 4 times the speed that it will on the internal oscillator.

Is there a command that is needed to tell the Picaxe
to use the resonator or Will it default to those pins?

Look at the explanation of the 'SETFREQ' command in the manual.
