I'm waiting for the first time the newspapers etc. get hold of an stupid accident attributable to a malfunction in one of these vehicles.

They will stop marvelling and rip the designers to shreds. It's an inevitable development that is reckoned to be able to cut road accidents, but I think that the transition period will be full of glitches as numpty meets cold logic. You know the guys, the ones that switch lanes like loonies for a perceived advantage in busy traffic or large /dual multiple roundabout configurations. If the lasers could be used to enforce a bit of lane discipline on the numpties then it might be a really good thing.

As it is, it's part of the march of technology. I just hope it works more consistently than my door Citroen Picaso door locking/unlocking software. Intuitive would be just fine. Lemon is 'sometimes' what I seem to have.
