serout command

ive set up my picaxe 40x to use the serout comman (as some may know from earlier questions) it seems that the line coming from pin7(the serout pin) is at a constant voltage of around 4V. Should this be the case as i expected for it to remain at 0 until i wanted to send data?

Do you mean Leg 7 or Output Pin 7 (Leg 40) ?

Leg 7 should remain at 0V when Idle, and is only used when downloading and during the SERTXD command.

The Output Pin specified in a SEROUT will idle at a level dependant upon the Baud Rate specifier; with Nxxxx it should idle at 0V, with Txxxx it should idle at +V.

The voltage measured will depend upon what the Output Pin is connected to, and will give a 'mid-way' reading while data is being transmitted.

A mid-way reading depending upon what is being sent, of course. What are you using to measure the voltage?
