Picaxe 18 - 16f627

Hello,

I've just found about 30 picaxe in a cupboard - 18 pin 16F627.

Are these usable with the current USB cables and porgramming editor, or are they too oldschool to be of any use?

Thanks
Jon

Update: Also just found some 16F872 and a couple of 16F872 28 pin axes - same question as above!!

Assuming they are PICAXE-18 and PICAXE-28 chips they will work with PE6 and the AXE027 cable.

In PE6 the compilers may not be pre-enabled; Options -> Compiler will allow those to be included and selected through the Workspace Explorer.

One thing to note is the PICAXE-18 has a reset pin ( leg 4 ). You need to pull that up with a 4K7 (ish) to +V or it won't run properly.

You might need to modify any 18-pin board which has a C.5 / leg 4 button with pull-down.

Looks like 16F627 is down as PICAXE-18 in the PICAXE the window.
If you mean "16F627" is shown as the chip label in the PE6 Simulation display window ( usually bottom left of the screen ) when PICAXE-18 is selected; that is correct. The PICAXE-18 is based on the16F627 with PICAXE firmware pre-programmed.

Going the other way; a chip labelled 16F627 is not necessarily a PICAXE-18, won't be if the PICAXE firmware has not been programmed into it.
