News on 20x2?

Just wondering, since the original Microchip release date for the underlying chip on the 20x2 was supposed to be 29/6, if there was any news on the potential release date?

Cheers,

Microchip have made at least 3 die revisions due to issues in their silicon. Each die revision takes several weeks, so development has taken much longer than they expected. You can watch the recent die history here if you are really interested!

However we have received, and fully extensively tested, sample parts. This generally means they are getting very close to release, so we expect parts any time in the next 6 weeks or so.

Watching a program that takes 2 minutes at 4MHz complete in under 8 seconds on a 20X2 is quite exciting! We will make the 20X2 available as soon as we receive the parts from Microchip.

Asked a few days ago in this thread -

All good things come to those who wait. At least thats what we tell ourselves with the 20X2.
Sorry, had missed that, somehow. Been pretty hectic around hear getting ready for NABGO (the Big Gun R/C Model Warship Combat national event -see http://nabgo.org) Some people start arriving tomorrow for the event, which ends 12 July. And I am both contest director and host not to mention participant with multiple complex robotic type ships to get tuned and ready.

Technical, thank you sincerely for the informative update. And the information that you have tested samples and the chip really screams! We have full faith that you are doing all you can and the at the mercy of Microchip, and can certainly imagine the multitude of issues in "getting it right" they face. And, all things considered, "right" is better then an overly early, buggy, introduction in most cases.

Hello

The 20X2 sounds very interesting.

Will the 20X2 be able for simulation within the PICAXE VSM program in the near future?

Was just looking at the microchip site (thanks again, Technical, for the pointer). It appears that the latest revision update was issued circa June 9, but still had a lot of the same errata listed in this silicon.:(

Any new news that can be shared with us mortals on where this chip (the 20X2) stands?

Cheers,

Wreno

Latest estimate from Microchip is the end of this month, but don't hold your breath!
As soon as we have received the bulk supplies we will release the part - all our development and testing is complete.

Thanks. Sounds hopeful, at least. I will try to remember to breathe.:)
Just in case.

Wonderful news that the testing and development is done. I do look forward to this little bugger. It looks to be a real jewel, occupying a really nice balance in the simplicity/complexity versus "oomph"/$ equation.

Cheers,

Can Technical reveal what board the 20X2 will be using? Will it be the 20M board or something new.
I don't think that they have released a new board specifically to support the 20X2s interesting features yet - they may in time. Otherwise you can use it on any other board with a 20M socket.

The 20X2 can be used on any existing board that supports the 20 pin device, such as the AXE091 development board or AXE118 20pin project board.
