When I put together my new 08 starter kit and fitted the three AA batteries, I found that the voltage on the battery holder connector was not as I wanted. So I selected other AA batteries, checked the voltage of each one and when fitted in the holder I found that the voltage on the connector was 0v !!.
When I took them out and looked inside the battery holder I see that there are at the positive terminals a piece of the plastic that protrudes and does not allow the positive battery terminals - if they are Duracell - to contact properly. Cut back the plastic to effect a remedy.
