moving the on-board socket

Hi,
I have an 18 pin Standard Project Board. The construction of my project doesn’t give me a good access to the on-board socket. Can I desolder the socket, and extend it with a wire so I have better access?

Desoldering could cause ALL sorts of problems!

The download pin can’t enter the socket due to the construction. The extension cable isn’t an option. Thought about that already.

You could, but desoldering may damage the board.

The other option is a new socket connected by wires to the existing socket's solder joints on the bottom of the board

It shouldn't be a problem to put it on a few centimeters of wire. Use mulitcore wire to stop the wire breaking.

Good solution Technical, didn’t thought about that. Anyway it’s good to know it doesn’t interfere the download. I only need 30 cm or something.
