LDR into a digital input

Help please. I'm new to PICAXE and I'm trying to design a weather station around a 28X. I've used up all of the analogue inputs( wind direction, humidity pressure etc).

I would like to control the brightness of the 7 segment display using a LDR value setting the PWM mark/space ratio.
Can I use another input or do I have to use a slave PICAXE. ( only crude resolution required) ps. I'm already using a slave for IR control...thanks tim
