IEEE 802.15.4 = "ZigBee"

Where DO they get these names! Any Picaxe thoughts on this (yet another...)emerging 2.4GHz wireless data technique?

ZigBee looks even cheaper than Bluetooth, with similar ranges (10's m) but slower data rates (~40kbps). Never heard of it ? Suggest a Google for background insights -hype even extends to " 5 years from a couple of AA batteries" ...

Chips already out include Freescale's
MC13191/92. Mmm- wonder if developer starter kits are perhaps free to a good home?

Update: The ZigBee name apparently relates to the zig zag communication dance of the honey bee, during which nectar source information is passed to the other hive inmates. Mmm...

(Bluetooth arises from Y1K Danish king Harold Bluetooth- famed for blueberry eating & peaceful unification of warfaring Scandanavian provinces)

And you thought car names were exotic ! Stan
