Looking for a fm radio receiver ic (or simple circuit) that will operate in the 450-470 Mhz range and is controllable from a picaxe.

Any thoughts much appreciated.

What are you trying to do overall? Have you considered the 433.92MHz ISM band (which is totally licence free but limited to ~ 25mW). 433 MHz ISM devices sell for peanuts & are a dead easy PICAXE mate, with ranges 100s of m LOS at typically 2400bps.

Why ~470MHz hence? This part of the radio spectrum is usually associated with UHF CB "PRS/PMR" 2 way radio. Such sets are super cheap. yet are of high quality & can be hacked for parts. I've done all manner of work (SSTV, Hellscreiber etc, "Swan" code) over >10km LOS with them.

HOWEVER THERE ARE FIRM REGULATIONS IN MANY COUNTRIES ABOUT EXACTLY WHAT CAN/CAN NOT BE DONE ON THIS BAND! Where are you ? In Aus/NZ we're limited to 3 seconds an hour of telecommand/control on just 2 data channels- yet have unlimited voice over the other 38 audio channels. Crazy...
