Sadly, Vex Robotics has discontinuing the Vex Motor Controller I have recommended in the past. If you can find a Vex Motor on Ebay, it is the board contained therein. This was a handy little jewel for only USD$10.
All is not lost, however.
For USD$34, http://www.robotpower.com/products/scorpion_mini_info.html this is a pretty handy, and additional feature laden, though more $$$ alternative.
Our good friends at HVW still carry the http://www.hvwtech.com/products_view.asp?ProductID=616 of course at a very reasonable USD$13, but you will need to do your own PWM etc. instead of just a servo signal.
And, of course, http://www.pololu.com/catalog/category/10 caries a line of various motor controllers, including basic H bridges, Hobby R/C servo signal controlled, serial controlled, or even analogue (yep, you can control some with a pot).
Still, the Vex provided a great solution for some problems. Sad that it was dropped.
