Error: Hardware not found on COM3!

When we load a program to the picaxe in our finished light chaser it loads correctly.
When we attempt to load it to our breadboard, we get:
Error: Hardware not found on COM3!
Is this a wiring error?

It could be a wiring issue, or it could be the PICAXE chip is busy running a previously downloaded program, is ignoring the download initiation, and requires a Hard Reset procedure to program it.

What download cable are you using? On my DIY USB cable I had to reverse the signal polarity to work
Chris,I don't know why the post where we solved this problem it's not showing..
Now that I think about, it was resolved on another thread. The 0 volts pin on the serial adapter was missing! As soon as we got a good ground everything worked.
