downloading to an x1 at 16mhz

is it actually possible to download to a x1 at 16mhz???

I have been investigating and it would seem that it isnt, because there is no way of telling program editor that it is working at 16mhz. but there is an option for all of the other chips like the 08m ect.

is this due to it defaulting to the internal resonator when downloading?

The way I understand it is that the PICAXE -28X1/40X1 powers-up using the internal oscillator at 4MHz and then switches to external or 8MHz at the SETFREQ command. When you initiate the download, the PICAXE first resets itself and restarts at 4MHz, then does the download.

Downloads should therefore always work regardless of external crystal frequency, hence no need for a user selectable option - although I haven't tried it. Holding reset and releasing when the "Connecting to hardware..." pop-up appears should allow the download.
