Although it may not be particularly Picaxe do-able, here’s what some American college guys have set up for their dormitory –the “MIDAS Multifunction In-Dorm Automation System”. http://web.mit.edu/zacka/www/midas.html External Web Link

Interesting to see how they've done it. I've got the Old-Man's Version myself - Ambiant Music automatically played in the bathroom when occupied, TV listings downloaded then served up on the TV via a STB, and Microsoft's Speech Agent telling me when programmes I've flagged are about to start.

Although PC-based, PICAXE's do play an important part in interfacing PIR's, pressure mats and door closed switches, one works as a 'telephone exchange' between the STB modem and PC DUN server and another switches audio around the house.

I particularly like their detailed description of the security setup, including locations of hidden cameras and their "scary mannequin". Brilliant.

My system kicks on the MIDAS system. It is so complex that it incorporates 7 remote controllers, all lined up in a row on the wife’s coffee table;)
