Can I connect this to any of the M2 series picaxe chips?

I believe not, that you need to use an X2 PICAXE and it is not necessarily easy to achieve.

Suggest using the Sensiron SHT31 instead, Hippy has posted code for that part on the forum here.

If our going down the road of using the X series have a look at adafruits HTU21d breakout board
has a built in voltage regulator and the required pull up resistors for the I2c line
Phil Hornsby has created a code (HTU21d.demo.Bas) for interfacing it nicely with the X series
