compatability starter packs

I purchased the 28x pack but on research and instructions from you all it seems a bit too far ahead at the moment. So I have ordered the 08 pack as it is easier to start with. Correct me I gone it wrong I read somewhere that I have to buy the chips as they are not sold with the kit. I thought that the chip that they arrived with the kit were the microcontroller (08, 28X) and that the extra chip holder in the 28X were for addititions or add ons when you wanted to go further.
Can you please clarify this for me although I've probably read it wrong.http://www.picaxeforum.co.uk/images/icons/icon5.gif

According to the product descriptions on http://www.tech-supplies.co.uk the 08M starter kits AXE033, AXE033U include all components, and that should include the PICAXE chip itself. Most of the project boards ( eg AXE021 for the 08 ) do not include a PICAXE chip which has to be ordered separately.

What's the product code of the pack which you have ordered ?

After I asked the question I received my 'PICAXE' book and my starter pack which answers the question, I think? The proto board arrived, (to be put together my me) and the other pack had : CD disc (different from the first one),Batt. holder, and down load cable also the 08 chip. There was no paperwork about delivery so I don't know if your numbers tally. Only paper work was 'axe 003 picaxe-08m starter pack' & 'picaxe-08 proto board kit'.
1 question solved but here's another. When I purchased 28X start. pk. I received CD rom with: Program Editor, Ver. 5.1.5. The 08 kit had on the CD Rom Proggram Editor Ver. 5.1.6, VSM simulator Ver. 1.0 beta, & axe027 USB cable drivers. (long winded, sorry) heres my question, Do I uninstall my 1st two discs: prog. edit. 5.1.5 & 2nd disc USB ser. converter before loading my newer disc with Prog. ed. 5.1.6, VSM sim. 0.1.0 beta, axe 027 cable drivers. Or does loading automatically over ride older versions. The reason I ask is that depending on instructions with other companies they all say different, therefore I don't want the mess it up.

Kits are packed in different batches at different times and so may contain different version CDROMs. The latest patch is always available on the PICAXE website - we always recommend the web download over a CD if possible. You can install the latest version over the top of any previous version.

All starter packs have a chip in them, otherwise you would not be able to start!

It is usually best to ignore the older disc and install everything from the CD with the latest version of the Programming Editor ( ie, 5.1.6 ).

Having done that you should download and install the 8MB Patch to upgrade to the latest 5.2.0 version from the following page -
