BOT120 Microbot kit as a holiday project?

Faced with a somewhat mixed weather forecast for the next couple of weeks, I’m just wondering about a holiday project to do with my teenage son in a rental cottage during the times when we can’t go fishing/paddle boarding etc. Something that will compete with the lure of the PC! As well as a couple of fun things like a toothbrush head/vibration motor/supercapacitor combination, I was wondering about the BOT120 from the Picaxe store. Has anyone got any experience of it/feedback, please? Looking at the datasheet, it seems to have everything needed to build and start following lines, bumping off walls etc. Any major tips or essential extra bits needed before I get it? I would be very grateful, thanks.

The only other thing you need to get started with BOT120 is the standard AXE027 programming cable and batteries.
