AXE171 and external speakers

Before I risk destroying the MP3 player, does anyone know if it will safely drive a 4 ohm speaker?

The diddy 8 ohm board mount speaker supplied is ok for testing, but for little else.

I have sourced the manufacturer's spec on the DF Player Mini, but it didn't answer this question.

Thanks

The circuit diagram is (still) missing from the AXE171 pdf.
I should not risk connecting the 4 ohm speaker without knowing the used on board amplifier.
Add a small extrenal amplifier, the connection instructions are in the documentation.

The amplifier is integrated into the dfplayer module.
The documentation says 'speaker max 3w' but nothing about the impedance.

The DFPlayer Mini includes a 3W mono amplifier based on the YX5200, 8002, or MH2024K-24SS chip. This allows you to directly connect one small speaker with an impedance of or and a power rating of 3W or higher.

The speaker output (SPK1 and SPK2) is bridge-tied load (BTL) mono, meaning it combines the left and right audio channels into a single mixed mono output.

Additionally, the module provides separate DAC_R and DAC_L outputs, which allow you to connect external stereo headphones or amplifiers. However, note that these pins still output a duplicated mono signal, rather than true stereo.

Thanks for your replies. I was going to use an external Class-D amplifier (from Adafruit), but as that was 2.5W and the DFPlayer outputs 3W it seemed a bit counterproductive. So I swapped the 4ohm speaker I had for a (better) 8ohm one. With WAV files the sound quality is surprisingly good.
