AXE027 failure

Hi Folks,
This is just to advise that my AXE027 cable has failed.
It was during a run of programming on a 08M2.
Everything was going OK when it suddenly stopped.
Previous to this, I haven't had any problem with it - always worked OK.
I checked the serial input line using the Test button under Options.
Normally when the Test is pressed you should see about +4.7V.
In this case it was seen to be -4.7V - opposite polarity!
So, something has happened to its USB interface.
I confirmed that the problem was in the AXE027 by using another AXE027, which worked OK.
Anyway, this is just to let you know of the failure - no help required really.

It should not be electrically possible for the AXE027 to output a negative voltage and there should never be any negative voltage available via a USB port.

Hi,

Are you 100% sure, that you measured the serial in (data transmitted from axe027)? I just remembered an old problem I had with the axe027 cable. In my case it was possible to measure negative voltage from the serial out (data received to axe027) line in reference to ground prong.. I never replied to the thread with the solution, but I eventually found out the ground lead on my cable was broken. After reconnecting ground the cable worked but was kinda nasty with all the plastic cover chewed away :)

Folks,
I'm happy that the failure wasn't caused by anything I was doing at the time.
Over the years I have seen many electronics items fail for an unknown reason,
so I will accept that it has happened, and purchase a replacement AXE027..
No further investigation is required.
