Thanks James. There's no mechanism other than what you see there. The servo wiggles that M shaped paper clip to alternate lifting each side of the turtle. The legs are free-floating and just swing forward to near-vertical when they can. Rubber tips on the legs give it some grip to push forward as it falls, so each side "ratchets" forward as it falls. Not terribly efficient, but certainly fun to watch. Originally I planned for the legs to all be parallel, but it bound up and didn't work until I arranged them in that tangential pattern, which gave it a very turtle-like look.
My friend Duane Degn is pretty active on LMR, he showed me your contest winner when I issued my one servo bot challenge on "another" forum.
