    Second Random variable

Hi Just a quicky... is it possible to have two different random numbers in a loop? Rick

    PICAXE40X2 Nixie Clock

Hi, I'm in the process of designing a PICAXE40X2, Nixie Tube clock. Instead of driving the Nixie Tubes with a dedicated IC, I am using the CD4028 BCD to decimal converter and utilising high voltage SMD transistors. I am planning on multiplexing the display which involves switching the high...

    Reset pin on picaxe 40X2

Hi All, Just a straightforward question about the 40x2 picaxe. Is the reset pin pulled high by a 4.7k resistor for normal usage and pulled momentarily low to reset? If so perhaps the pin should be more correctly labelled reset 'bar'? Lacking the knowledge and time to find the way to...

    very basic OLED commands

Hi I haven't posted for some time but I have a little problem which I remember I first had when first I started to work with the PICAXE. What are the very minimum serout commands that an OLED (2x8) should receive before sending a variable? I suspect the first time around that it was Eclectic...

    "Gym Bean" SMD Timer

Hi All I am building a "Gym Bean" (my name) for my business consultant and as part of a possible run of "Gym Beans" as kits for interested parties! I have soldered together a prototype as carefully as my hands and eyes will allow but I can't seem to download a program to it? When I try and...

    PICAXE at 3V auto off

Hi I've found this picaxe circuit for an auto-off design. Could someone tell me if it is compatable with a 3V supply? If not is there a similar circuit that would work at 3V? Kind Regards Rickz

    10uF ceramic capacitors?

Hi There I am using 10uF ceramic capacitors to decouple my PICAXEs and the thought just occured... Are ceramic capacitors capeble of supplying the current resevoir that an electrolytic would? They're convienient, fairly cheap in volume and, usefully, they have a 5mm footprint which makes it...

    Dl1414 & picaxe20x2

Hi I Haven't been around hear much lately but I've a question :- Has anyone any experience of running a DL1414 with a picaxe? I'm looking at a PICAXE-20X2 or M2 and a RTC for a watch project I'm looking into! I'm looking at a port for the address Byte and most of the other pins for the RTC...

    IRIN IROUT on same picaxe08M2

Hi All I’d like to know if both the IROUT and the IRIN can be used on the same 08M2+ chip at the same time? I’d like to use an SMD IR phototransistor (or photodiode) instead of the leaded IR sensor IRM-3638, and an IR LED to detect, by reflection, the presence of a hand or similar object at a...

    SMD PICAXE40X2 pin-outs

Hi I've designed a PCB based around a SMD PICAXE40X2. Then I discovered that the SMD PICAXE40X2 is not available in a dual type package! Apparently it is only available in a 40 pin square package. I've googled it but have been unable to find pin-out designations Am I missing a trick (again)...

    reflow pick & place?

Hi People I'm doing a project with literally hundreds of 1206 SMD components, all under the control of a PICAXE40X2! I have decided to invest in a DIY reflow oven! I'm wondering what is the simplest/cheapest way of manually picking and placing 1206s? Tweezers? Perhaps a fish tank type...

can I drive a 3.3V voltage regulator from a picaxe pin?

Hi I'm wondering if I can drive a 3.3V voltage regulator from a PICAXE pin via an NPN and a PNP transistor?

    PICAXE and PCBs

Hi I'm wanting to adopt the star method of PCB design I'm working on a PCB for the PICAXE sound detection circuit and although the first part of the PCB went well I'm now stuck with three nodes on the power line which I can't join up easily! A bit of advice would be welcome? Rick

    Frequency Meter

Hi I've built a simple frequency meter. It uses PICAXE oscillators for the reference oscillators and test frequency. It seems to work fine in 0-999Hz mode reading 1061 Hz for a 1,000Hz test signal. This is satisfactory at the moment but will need to tweak it later. My problem comes when I...

    colour sensor to RGB converter

Hi I'm trying to build a proof of concept of a colour sensor to RGB LED converter! What I'm trying to do is use an LDR to sense reflected red, green and blue light from Superbright LEDs then use this information to pwm an RGB LED. I've built a prototype module on a PCB and it responds after...

    pwmout problems

Hi I'm trying to use the pmout wizard to program an 28X2 I'm able to program it i.e. I get the progressive bar thing! But I can't detect an output on my oscilloscope! I'm beginning to wonder if I've forgotten something quite obvious? Any helpful suggestions welcome Rick

    Frequency reference

I'm wanting to build a reference oscillator running at 1kHz to calibrate other equipment. I'm thinking this could be very easy with a PICAXE although I can't see how at the moment! I'm using a 555 at the moment. I would like an accuracy of about <1% or so. Can't seem to find much on the...

    Decoupling capacitors revisited

Hi Just a quick question on decoupling voltage regulators. The datasheet for SMD 7805 shows a 330nF resistor across the input to ground. As SMD 1uF are easier and cheaper to find than 330nF capacitors I'd like to use them to decouple my SMD voltage regulator. Is this folly? Or is it just...

    TAPIR

Hi As its been a bit quiet on the Forum in the last few hours I thought I'd take the time to write a post that has nothing to do with PICAXEs whatsoever! The subject , the TAPIR! Got the kit and put it together, the E-smog detector came to life! Now I can "hear" the "electromagnetic pulses"...

    micro 8

Hi I'm wondering if a PICAXE is made in Micro 8 footprint? Indeed I'm beginning to wonder if any ICs actually exist in micro 8? Perhaps someone could shed some light on my problem as the micro 8 seems an ideal tiny footprint for putting an IC into a small space on a PCB.
