    MQTT - picaxe transactions?

See the last post of the "Where's the Wizard?" thread. Cut and pasted from ESP's doc. Let's be really honest. If everyone figured out everything by themselves, they'd program PICs in assembler and Rev-Ed would have no customers. And to be really, really honest, if Picaxes don't make...

    MQTT - picaxe transactions?

I think the interest for IOT stuff on this forum is evident. Now that ESP are abandonning NON_OS SDK and supporting only RT_OS SDK, (which looks about as friendly as my dog when someone sits in his armchair), I'm inclined to think Buzby is right about Rev-Ed having missed out on a good...

    Where's the Wizard ?

Because your ESP has only 1MB of flash. The past: ESPs with 1MB flash (01s,M3s,..) The present: Update AT's version to 1.7.0.0. Limited by the size of the AT bin files, only 1024+1024 flash map is supported by default. Therefore, please choose 16Mbit/32Mbit-C1 flash size when flashing these...

    Where's the Wizard ?

After the 1,2,3,4 count. Does it work for you every time? If it does lbenson and I are obviously doing something wrong.

    Where's the Wizard ?

I just tried the AT+CIUPDATE way a few times, and got an error each time. Then I read in the doc: ERROR will be returned if the upgrade fails due to unfavourable network conditions. Please wait for some time before retrying. "some time".... that could be used to get it done in a more...

    Where's the Wizard ?

The easiest way to update to the latest firmware would be to fill in the Windows thing with the same files and addresses as in my command line in post #71. Just make sure you have those files. Following the instructions above using the AT update should also do it, but I've never tried it.

    Where's the Wizard ?

Mornin' all, Hi, lbenson: Here's an extract from my "/esptool-master/ESP8266_AT_Bin_V1.6.2/bin/at/README.md" file. I only have 1MB and 4MB ESPs so I never looked at the 2MB stuff which is why I thought "user1.1024.new.5.bin" was a typo for "user1.1024.new.2.bin" that looked like a...

Difference Between L293D and L298N Motor Driver

L293Ds are has-beens. When I changed mine for a TB6612 on my buggy, it was as if I'd put in new batteries.

    Where's the Wizard ?

So, "Ugly and unweildy" is a bit behind the times. This is what I get using esptool.py: AT+GMR AT version:1.6.2.0(Apr 13 2018 11:10:59) SDK version:2.2.1(6ab97e9) compile time:Jun 7 2018 19:34:26 Bin version(Wroom 02):1.6.2 OK The same as you but without CIUPDATE. I think we have...

    Where's the Wizard ?

At 0X1000 you're trying to upload a file that probably doesn't exist yet. Use the one in Buzby's ugly and unweildy or my esptool command line. That's why I posted it. Buzby: Why do you update your firmware with windaube and then again with the AT command? Why update at all? What do you think...

    Where's the Wizard ?

Mornin', I just uploaded the latest firmware with no trouble, using esptool.py. I suppose you're using that ugly and unwieldy (Windows look and feel) graphical interface. Here's the command I used that might help you fill in the files to load and where to load them. With the full file paths...

    Where's the Wizard ?

The ESP is sold configured as an access point and will give an error if you ask it to scan for other access points in that mode. You have to be in station mode to see available networks. Thanks for the "Ctrl-j" tip. I gave up trying to get AT commands to work from the Picaxe terminal...

    error with 20x2

Hi radiofan, I would dump: "The program", even if: "Other folks have used it with no problem." Some commands leave a Picaxe in a state where uploading is impossible without a hard reset. Why not post the code you're trying to use? And get an LED to blink with a 20X2 before trying...

    PicAXe to Serial Converter

0x27 is the 7-bit address of a PCF8574T, which is what you said you have in post#1. So you would use 0x4E with a Picaxe. 0x3F is the 7-bit address of a PCF8574A, so you would use 0x7E with a Picaxe. It would NOT have worked with an Arduino using the address 0x27.

    PicAXe to Serial Converter

I tried the program before posting and it just worked, as is, using the address 0x4E. 0x27: 010 0111 0x4E: 0100 1110 8-bit address for Picaxe = 0x27 shifted left once. No capacitors, no pullups, just a 08M2 and the module.
