    Windows 7 alternative?

Not what you want to hear, but Win10 is fine, other than the constant updates and some unsupported peripherals. I have twenty-plus computers (many laptops for teaching) and no problems. If they ever did crash, you never need recovery CDs/DVDs. Little-known fact: You can still get a free upgrade...

tom wins! Great to hear input from someone with real experience. That's worth a lot more than speculation.

    20M2 Forklift Figure 8

I used an interesting workaround on this robot chassis to send IR commands over a simple 433 Mhz radio link. The IRIN decoder in the receiving 20M2's firmware allows SERVOPOS commands to operate servos continuously while awaiting new commands. Details here.

Sending IR Commands over Radio Comms

Hserin my be another possibility, although I had no luck getting SERIN/SEROUT working over these simple 433 Mhz modules, even without worrying about blocking & servo commands. I always look for the simplest way out! Adding a pic and video of my rig here now.

Sending IR Commands over Radio Comms

I'm sending simple radio control signals to a mobile robot which uses servo commands for drive & steering. Many ways to do that, but I'm a minimalist and don't want to add much/any hardware. I'm sticking with the tiny 433 Mhz TX & superhet RX modules mentioned here, cheap and easy to connect...

Easy, Cheesy 433 MHz Radio Link

I tried using these again recently and my results were pure junk... actually the regen receivers were junk. Literally only one in ten receivers sort of worked for a meter or so. These cheapies must be factory seconds or maybe even rejects. I ordered these smaller RX500A superhet receivers and...

    20M2 Forklift Figure 8

A work in progress. This reverse tricycle robot drives like a forklift, the single rear wheel drives & steers. The two big wheels up front spin freely. The scrolling LED is a $5 LED badge off eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/293026885747

Has anyone tried ultrasonic distance measurement by PICAXE alone, not using SRF005 etc ?

Your experiments are wreaking havoc on the the guy in the room next door, who's restoring his vintage ultrasonic-controlled TV.

    SPE030 Speech Module Problem

Danielpbt, you have resurrected an 11-year old thread and it does appear that the part is long gone. In 2012m I posted about a then-new TTS chip at https://picaxeforum.co.uk/threads/new-text-to-speech-ic.21424/ . Speech is definitely fun to experiment with, a pity it is not cheap or easy in the...

"Hotel room", Buzby? You're taking the development of this "mobile transmitter" quite literally! :)

How to use serial commands for chip-chip communication?

Your process is correct to verify proper communicaton protocols using a direct wire connection (ground and signal wires) before attempting radio comms. It really is twice as hard syncing two Picaxes to talk, debugging two programs at once. Ideally you would have TWO computers displaying the...

Haven't tried that, so all I can say is check the manual, there are examples in there.

How to use serial commands for chip-chip communication?

RFIN & RFOUT work great. See my post at https://picaxeforum.co.uk/threads/easy-cheesy-433-mhz-radio-link.27904/ Complicating the issue is that you're never sure if the problem is on the transmitter or receiver end, and you're tweaking both codes simultaneously. Work slowly & methodically...

    Homemade NKM2401

Resurrecting an ancient post. I'm using one if these NKM2401 chips for the first time for remote control of a robot. Using 20M2s both in the transmitter and receiver, so they can do RFOUT & RFIN directly. From what I gather, the 2401 is more important on the receiving end to avoid missing data...

Broken on this side of the pond too. Although http://www.picaxe.com/docs/picaxe18m2.pdf works.
