Another Firefly project, this time AXE901-based

This is an attempt to create a synchronising firefly. It isn't the first time someone has done this, of course. But this version repurposes some very cheap hardware, which may be of interest. Some varieties of firefly beetle will synchronise their flashing, as a means to attract a mate. It is...

    Windows 7 alternative?

Fully agree. Except that Fusion is a tad expensive. Virtualbox (does the same kind of thing) is free. It is really weird to have two screens on the same box, one running native Ubuntu and one running XP that cannot be distinguished from native, with cut and paste between both machines. My...

    picaxe08 readadc

Thanks hippy, that must be it, though it is 160 that I'm getting. I will check again, though I have to use debug which is very clunky. Sadly, sertxd isn't there on these ancient chips. Fitting code into 128 bytes is good discipline.

    picaxe08 readadc

Interesting, thanks for the response. The sfh3310 phototransistor in use has a Vce(sat) of 100mV, so I was expecting maybe a drop of 700mV on the pair. which should give me 2.3v out of 3.0 on the pin in saturation. That would be close to 200 on the adc. In fact I'm getting 160, but repeatedly...

    picaxe08 readadc

Small question, but I have failed to find the answer: What is the range of values readable on an 08 (yes, not an 08M etc.) by readadc? I was expecting the range to be 0-255 but that doesn't seem to be the case. The pin is looking at the junction of a 10k pulldown and a photo transistor/BC547...

    forum certificate expired?

My browser is telling me that the certificate for the forum has expired! I could only get in by agreeing to access despite the risks. The expiry date reported was today, presumably in the last few minutes as I posted something earlier without trouble.

    Windows 7 alternative?

It worked for me a few weeks ago. But then you still only have w10. And presumably MS have captured another user account for the future. For real work and thousands of apps (all free and rock solid), go for Ubuntu. Pick a long-term support release (18.04 is the most recent). If you have old xp...

    Household lighting controller

This entry (under construction) describes a Picaxe-controlled led lighting controller for household 12v led lighting. It originated with a desire to replace MR16 halogen lamps in the kitchen, at a time when redecoration was contemplated. It was created originally in 2004, when the range of led...

    Buck supplies

I use a Chinese LM2596S-based converter to drive a 40X2, and 08M2, and associated bits at 5v from a 13v supply with no issues. Make sure you use the normal decoupling caps.

    unprocessible command found in simulate.processnextline - do_a

Great work guys, especially for a Saturday. The code in question (event monitor) constantly scans for something to do, and only exits the loop when something is found that needs action (i.e. an over-temperature or whatever). The null event is a temporary option to distinguish from 'cleared' . I...

    unprocessible command found in simulate.processnextline - do_a

Thanks hippy. This is the code (541 lines). It is an overlay supervisory control system on my central heating (standard 'S'-plan at heart). The purpose is to implement weather compensation using on/off control of the boiler, operate the boiler near to its condensing sweet spot, and generally...

    unprocessible command found in simulate.processnextline - do_a

Thanks hippy. It is not my intention to burden people with my problem, so thanks for the suggestion, I will do that. I had hoped that there might be some inside knowledge of the error message as a clue. I'm assuming that the compilers don't use the same code as the simulator interpreter...

    unprocessible command found in simulate.processnextline - do_a

Well thanks for the offer. But it is 500 lines or so of code that works well on real hardware, so perhaps isn't offending. I was looking for an idea, maybe from Technical, regarding what the error message means so I could move on. You are welcome to have the code but without some idea of where...

    unprocessible command found in simulate.processnextline - do_a

Any idea what this means? Seen when starting to simulate. 'do_a' does not appear in the code, which runs with no issues on a real 40X2. PE6.0.9.3

    PE6 persistent memory window

Thank you hippy. It had me foxed. Too many things to fiddle with in PE6.
