IR in VSM

From FORUM comments it looks as if there are many folks using "IR clickers" in their designs these days. It would be very handy to be able to simulate a "clicker" when using the "irin" command. The only way I seem to be able to do it is by having a key pad in my design & scanning it to simulate IR values. The SONY TV 5001 code works well for me. Jims

There is already a simulation for an IR transmitter, like a TV remote.

Just make sure you have it enabled on the 'Options/Simulation' tab.

Then when the simulation executes 'irin' a TV remote appears on the screen !

My mistake. These comments are in the wrong part of FORUM. I'm really interested in having an IR simulation in VSM. Something to use an IR receiver device such as the TSOP4038 and an IR clicker device. Maybe it could function like the existing simulation that is in the PE as you describe. I believe this function would be a good addition to VSM. Maybe one of you FORUM moderators could transfer this conversation over to VSM to see if there are others who are interested in this.

I don't know of any Virtual Instrument IR Remote which would be the ideal thing to have.

You can use a keypad matrix for direct entry, or even a PICAXE ( probably driven by such a keypad matrix! ) to create an IR stream for IRIN commands. Take a look at the "IRIN Command.DSN" sample.

Thanks, hippy. Do you think some talented programmer would want to take on the task of creating a Virtual Remote IR Instrument? I don't have the smarts to do such a thing. My last experience with real programming was providing support for Fortran in the early 1960's. So you can see where I'm coming from. Jims

Unfortunately I wouldn't know where to start either. The Virtual Instruments I believe are part of the core VSM software from Labcenter Electronics so they would probably be the best people to start with.

Hippy, is this the type of thing you were thinking about in your previous reply? I've attached 3 files ( a set-up I use in the absence of a real good way to simulate IR with VSM). Jims

That's the sort of thing I was thinking of. It's a 'whole load of components' rather than an elegant Virtual Instrument but would do the same job.

Is there a way to bundle all those components and the keypad to IR scanner code as a single 'component', or at least something which is a single component to which you only have to attach the keyboard and have IR out ? I am afraid I don't know and you probably have more practical VSM experience than I do !

Thanks, hippy. I have no idea how to do this, but I'll keep plugging away at it. Hopefully someone "out there" would want to take it on as a project. Jims
