It's not clear what you are after. What's your goal? Are you making a fixed-position device? Is max range a consideration? You chose 56 khz to avoid interference from 38 khz devices? Pinholes are reducers, lenses are amplifiers. Strong IR reflects off walls and ceilings. Lots of experimenting...

You may be able to use C.3 as a simple high/low output, freeing up another pin with ADC capability. Others here have posted mosfet circuits switched on by the software-selectable "weak pullup resistors" built into the Picaxe. If that's an option for you, let us know and we can point to that post.
